Based in a former Apostolic church, our newest Dawe Brothers Funeral Directors branch is based in Ledbury and has a long and fascinating history. It opened in 1889 as a Mission Hall, founded by Lady Henry Somerset, who was well-known for organising soup kitchens to feed Ledbury’s poor and for her Christian stand against the evils of drink.
Lady Somerset handed it over to the Rector of Ledbury in 1892 for church work. By 1932 it was called the Elim Hall and was in the care of the Rev. H W Fielding of the Church of the Four-Square Gospel.
The hall’s corrugated iron structure was replaced with a weather-boarded one, and other alterations included the removal of windows at the front. It maintains a traditional feel, providing the local community with the reassuring professionalism and experience they need when a loved one has passed away.
Conveniently located in the town, and close to Ledbury Station, the branch has a chapel of rest and reflection room, and has limited parking on site. There are public car parks opposite and next door to the premises. It is close to St Michaels and All Angels Church, and 16 miles from Hereford Crematorium.
Our Ledbury branch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, outside our opening times we provide a 24-hour telephone service to support you if you need our services.
